MODEL DEVELOPMENT FOR THE PREDICTION OF COATING DEFECT AREA IN PETROLEUM PIPELINES: CASE STUDY OF NNPC, CHEVRON AND SHELL IN NIGERIA
Adewuyi B.O.
Corrosion Characteristics of Pipelines in different Oil and gas installations: NNPC, Shell petroleum Company and Chevron petroleum Company all in Nigeria were investigated. Parameters affecting pipeline degradation and coating defect area were measured, these include; diameter of the pipeline, applied current, coating thickness, leakage resistance, potential gradient, soil resistivity and depth of burial of pipelines. A data-driven non-linear regression model was developed between coating defect area (S) as a dependent variable and coating thickness (Tc), leakage resistance (Cr), burial depth K as independent variables. The model was used to predict the coaling defect area of selected oil pipelines. Computer program for the prediction of coating defect area for oil and gas pipelines; trade named CODEAP was developed using a q-basic programming language. The developed program was experimentally validated.
