We intend to study the subsurface structure of the earth around two student hostels in the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, by using seismic refraction technique. A total of four profiles were taken with one borehole log as a control in site one. Each profile length of 120.0 m with 24 geophones placed at 5.0 m interval. From the processed data, the result shows a depth to basement of about 24.0 m around the survey area with undulating basement. The overburden and weathered basement contains large volume of clay. It was concluded that the presence of clay in the survey area could have pose problem to the overburden load as a result of the shrinkage and expansion nature of the clay which is seasonal dependent.
