PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF LOCALLY FABRICATED BRIQUETTING MACHINE
A. O. Ojomo S. A. Alagha

A locally fabricated briquette machine was evaluated. The machine was evaluated for three major variables affecting briquetting extrusion. A 3×3×3 factorial experiment was used for the purpose, which include three levels of biomass particle sizes (3mm, 5mm and 7mm), three levels of biomass moisture content (8%, 10% and 12%) and three levels of machine speeds (0.89m/s, 1.2m/s and 1.4m/s). The machine performs best with biomass particle size of 5mm, biomass moisture content of 10% and machine speed of 0.89m/s. Also the effect of moisture content and particle sizes on the compressive strength was evaluated. It was observed that products that have high compressive strength are good briquettes because they are easy to handle.
