EFFECTS OF OPERATING VARIABLES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF DESIGNED, CONSTRUCTED AND TESTED MULTI PURPOSE ELECTROLYTIC CELL
Ugbo F. O.
This work studied the effects of operating variables including copper concentration, temperature, power consumption, current and the anode-cathode distance on the multipurpose electrolytic cell used for electro-wining of copper. In achieving this objective, rectangular stainless steel cathode of length 17 cm, width 5 cm and thickness 2 mm was used for copper electro-winning thereafter the solutions were prepared under varied conditions. These solutions were used to run the cell with the electrolyte and the effects of different operating variables on the electrolytic cell was monitored for 2 hours. The designed, constructed and tested multipurpose electrolytic cell of 85% efficiency worked perfectly well. It was found that increase in temperature, current, copper concentration, decrease in anode-cathode distance and .power consumption improves the metal deposition on the cathode.
