DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF A GAS-FIRED MELTING FURNACE FOR NON-FERROUS METALS

The Furnace is very important in many heat processing industries. This paper presents the development of a gas-fired melting furnace. The design expressions for the various components such as the combustion chamber and the tilting mchanism are given and the fabrication process discussed. A performance evaluation carried out, established a furnace productivity of 163.6 kg per day of Aluminium metal melted and an efficiency of 33%. It can thus be used for small scale industrial production.
