REGRESSION MODEL FOR THE DETERMINATION OF COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF AW-CEMENT CONCRETE
D.O. Onwuka, M.C. Arimanwa, U.S. Onwuka
Aluminium dross is an industrial waste product obtained during aluminium smelting operations. The powder was used in this work as a pozzolan to partially replace ordinary Portland cement in various proportions for aluminium wastecement concrete (AWcement concrete) production. Thirty different mix ratios were used to produce ninety (90) AWcement concrete cubes measuring 150×150×150mm that were cured in water and tested on the 28th day in a 1500kN capacity compressive test machine. This work applies regression theory to develop a model which predicts the compressive strength of AWcement concrete. The values of compressive strength obtained from the model compare favorably with those obtained experimentally. Given a specified mix ratio, the model developed can predict the compressive strength of AWcement concrete and vice versa. The model was tested for adequacy using statistical Students’ Ttest and Fisher test and was found to be adequate.
